When it comes to your vacation home, it’s important to make sure it not only looks good, but suits all of your needs. Your focus needs to be on making your home both aesthetically beautiful AND functional!
The way you decide to organize your home is largely dependent on the way that it is used. Are you renting it out for a month? Inviting all of the family up for weekends at the lake? Or perhaps you’d just like to have nice, private weekends to yourself at your summer home. How the home is used will drastically change which furnishings (and how many furnishings) you will need.
Renting out your vacation home
If you rent out your summer home from time to time during the summer months, you may want to consider your tenants when it comes to the function of your home. You’ll want to think about the amount, size, and quality of your furniture.
For example, you may want to add more beds for when larger groups rent, along with extra seating for the living and dining room.
When it comes to the size of your furniture, you’ll want to have the same idea and provide plenty of room for large groups to sit. A larger dining room table for your dining room and a sectional for your living room is probably a good idea.
You will also want to think about the durability of your furniture. Furniture that isn’t high quality will more easily scuff and scratch, and with a higher amount of traffic in your home you will likely end up having to replace it sooner than you would like. You’ll want to make sure you have furniture that will hold up to wear and tear.
Visiting with family and friends
If your summer home will be used exclusively by you and your family, you have more freedom to arrange it to suit your family’s specific needs, much like you would your primary home.
However, you’ll want to consider if you have friends who will be visiting occasionally. It is always a good idea to have a guest bedroom available, some extra seating in the living room area, and a couple of extra places available at the table if you expect this to be the case.
If it’s just you and the misses/mister at your cabin this summer, you will likely want to keep your furnishings simple and designed for two!
