Feeling a little overwhelmed or crunched for time with your new project, or even the idea of starting it? We understand that handling the interior design for a new home or remodel isn’t something that happens overnight, but before the project can be finished it has to be started!
Desiree Nasto is one of our expert designers here at Wenz Furniture. She earned her degree from Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton, which is what makes her a certified expert. When asked why she chose to be a designer, she said, “I love bringing out the highest potential a room has to offer. I want to make fashion meet function.”
Her desire to make fashion meet function is what makes her advice highly valuable. As a certified designer, it is within her expertise to make colors and styles match, but also to make decisions based on the customer’s convenience and their lifestyles.
Design Tip #1
During a recent interview at a spring showcase home (you can watch the full interview by clicking here), Desiree talked about focal points. She describes them as “The point of interest or emphasis in a room”. Desiree says, “The first thing I look for in a room when starting a project is the focal point. Usually, this is where our attention will first be drawn to. It’s the foundation of the room and is what takes lead when deciding on where to place furniture.”

Design Tip #2
Something to keep in mind once you understand the focal point in the room, is what type of patterns you enjoy. Mixing patterns is a great way to create interest in a room. Desiree suggests, “When mixing patterns it’s important to have different scales. You’ll want small, medium, and large patterns complementing each other instead of being in competition. This can be done with furniture, throw pillows, drapes, and rugs.”
